Northeastern Indian state of Assam has its capital city, Guwahati. It is beautifully positioned with an amphitheater of forested hills to the south, and it runs parallel to the Brahmaputra River (which is crossed there).

About 400 CE, the Hindu kingdom of Kamarupa (also known as Pragjyotisa) had its capital at Guwahati. Up to 1681, when it became the residence of the Ahom ruler of Lower Assam, the town was held alternately by Muslims and Ahoms (a Tai-speaking people who had moved from Yunnan province, China and governed much of Assam from the 13th century ce). The Ahom raja established it as his capital in 1786. Guwahati was ruled by the Myanmar (Burmese) from 1816 until 1826, when it was given to the British as the capital of Assam. The capital was relocated.

A significant river in both Central and South Asia is the Brahmaputra. From its origins in the Himalayas, it travels over 1,800 miles (2,900 km) to meet the Ganges (Ganga) River, where the combined waters of the two rivers empties into the Bay of Bengal.

Pickup from Airport/station within Guwahati Metropolitan and transfer to hotel for refreshment. Later proceed to Umananda Temple. The Umananda temple is located on a small island on the Brahmaputra river. The island is called Peacock Island and perhaps is the smallest river island in the world. To visit this place you will need to take a ferry ride from the banks. There is a small hill on the island sheltering the temple namely, Bhasmacala Later we proceed to visit SHAKARDEV KALAKHETRA which is a premier institution exhibiting the culture and heritage of Assam. Spread over a vast amplitude, the complex houses different buildings that are systematically arranged according to art, dance, sculptures etc. Named after the great unifier and the creator of modern Assamese community, Srimanta Shankardev this cultural institution will introduce you to what Assam is all about. Also if the time permits we will visit Tirupati Balaji temple and Assam State Museum. After a day long tour, we will drop you to your hotel for overnight stay.
