It’s a heritage town situated at an altitude of nearly 1200 meters some 55 kilometers east of Darjeeling and nearly 68 kilometers north of Siliguri. During ancient times this was the hub for traders on the famous silk route to India from China and Tibet via the Jelep La pass on the Sikkim China / Tibet border. There are quite a few places with magnificent views and with historical values. Some of the nearby places of interest are many like Lava, Pedong, Ghanti Dara and Tiffin Dara, Lava Monastery, Nature Interpretation Centre, Lolaygaon, Heritage forest with canopy walk, Rishyap, Raliekhola, Samthar valley, Neora Valley reserve are all places with scenic beauty and offers its traveler the view of the mighty Himalayan range on a clear day. Kali Mandir and Chitra Bhavan are also places of interest in Kalimpong. Gushing rivers in the vicinity and bursts of green forests only add to the scenic beauty of the region along with the greenery of the region. Among the hills Kalimpong is the only place in the hills where landslides are minimum due to its plantation. The sparkling streams and rivulets meandering lazily by the terraced fields are a treat to the eyes. This town is in a blaze of colour throughout the year owing to the richness of its stunning flora and the nurseries are the most visited sites of the tourist. This town is bustling with nursery a major source of cactus and orchid. The view and fragrances of the flowers make you to think about an eternal destination.

Kalimpong is a breathtaking spot with panoramic view of the Himalaya. The Teesta Rangeet Valley can be viewed from 7th Mile View Point. Kalimpong bazaar is good place for shopping; one can get items like Tibetan Jewelries, artifacts, copperwares, handicraft items and many varieties of dress materials.
